  1. UGC NET Exam
    The UGC NET or the University Grant Commission- National Entrance T12est is held biannually in the month of June (3rd week). The exam is conducted by the CBSE on behalf of UGC. The exam is essentially required in order to pursue Higher Research in University departments/Institutes of National Importance/National Laboratories and Institutes of CSIR in various fields of Science & Technology. The candidates qualifying the UGC Exam are awarded a Junior Research Fellowship or Lecturership on the qualification of the NET exam.

    Eligibility for UGC-NET/JRF exam
    As mentioned earlier only the Indian Nationals are eligible for the award of the UGC/CSIR-NET/JRF fellowships.

    a)Qualifications
    The candidates should have an M.Sc or Equivalent degree with a minimum of 55% marks for General category and 50% marks for SC/ST, Physically and Visually Handicapped candidates and PhD degree holders who had passed Master’s degree prior to 19th September 1991 are eligible.

    b)Age Limit

    For the award of JRF, the age of the candidate should be from a minimum 19 years to maximum age of 28 years. The candidates are given age relaxation of 5 years for Schedule Castes/Schedule Tribes/OBC, Physically Handicapped/Visually Handicapped and female applicants. However, for the award of Assistant Lecturership, there is no upper age limit.

    Benefits of Qualifying CSIR NET/JFR

    For any prospective candidate for the position of Assistant Lecturership, the UGC NET exam is a must for any University in India. It should be noted that the students who qualify in the JRF are also eligible for lecturership. The JRF qualified students are entitled to a monthly stipend of Rs 25,000 p.m. for a period of two years. Subsequent to the completion of two years as JRF and if the fellow is registered for the PhD the fellowship is upgraded to SRF (NET) and the stipend is increased to Rs. 28,000/- p.m for the 3rd and subsequent years.
