  1. Generally, the syllabus of both UPSC Examination is almost similar with minor differences. While the UPSC Exam or the IAS Exam is conducted at the national level, the HPAS or the Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services is a regional examination with some focus on the state level information.
    Starting with the First Stage or The Preliminary Exam, the candidate has to study History, Geography, Politics, Art & Culture, and socio-economic development of Himachal Pradesh.
    The Second Stage, the majority of the questions are centred on the current state-related issues.
    Listed below is the study material most candidates have been following for the preparation of both UPSC and HPAS Exams. In addition to these reference books, NCERT forms the fundamental books of reference for these examinations. Listed below are the Reference books that individuals follow.
    1. For General Knowledge of HP
    a)Himachal Pradesh General Knowledge by R.Gupta
    b)History, Art and Culture of Himachal Pradesh by G.S Mian
    c) Himachal- A Wonderland by Also, Jagmohan Balokhra. It is considered the complete encyclopedia of Himachal Pradesh.
