Staff Selection Commission – Combined Graduate Level Examination Objective: Recruit staff to various posts in ministries, departments and organisations of the Government of India. Conducted by the SSC for Group B and Group C positions. Eligibility:- Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University or Institution. Age:18 and 32 years (depending upon post applied) as of 1 August of the test-taking year. Application Fee: The application fee for CGL is Rs. 100. All women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Physically Handicapped, and Ex-Servicemen eligible for reservation are exempted from paying the application fee.
Selection process:- 1.Tier I: Preliminary
The Tier I exam consists of a written objective multiple-choice exam with four sections. a)General Intelligence and Reasoning b)General Awareness c)Quantitative Aptitude d)English Comprehension
Each section has 50 Marks per section for a total of 200 Marks.
Tier II: Mains Exam
Also known as the Mains Exam, the Tier II exam consists of the written objective multiple-choice exam, in four sections (also called “Papers”).
a)Quantitative Aptitude b)English Language and Comprehension c)Statistics d)General Studies, which is subdivided into Finance & AccountingEconomics & Governance. The exam was typically scored with a maximum of 200 Marks per section.
Tier III exam: Descriptive Paper
The paper is offline and the candidates are to do writing an essay or Letter. The exam is conducted in both English and Hindi.
Tier IV exam: Data Entry Skill Test / Computer Proficiency Test
Data Entry Speed Test (DEST): candidates enter data at the rate of 2000 key presses in 15 minutes. (Central Excise & Income Tax) Computer Proficiency Test (CPT): covering the topics of word processing, spreadsheets making slides.
