No Disclosure of Marks in UPSC
No Disclosure of Marks in UPSC
The civil servant’s aspirants are always eager to know the result. However, the marks which they score are not revealed to them. This ignited a need amongst the students. Many writ petitions were filed to put the score of civil services exam under RTI (Right to Information). UPSC is India’s most prominent exam and it needs to maintain certain integrity and confidentiality associated with it. Under the Supreme Court ruling, the commission is not bound to release the marks of a candidate under the RTI act.
Various petitions were filed to review this ruling. But, a bench headed by Justice Uday U Lalit has clearly rejected the plea. “We have gone through the contents of the review petitions and do not find any error apparent on the face of the record to justify our interference in review jurisdiction. These review petitions, therefore, stand dismissed,” stated the order which was passed.
ill effects of disclosure of Marks
Even though students are of the view that knowing the marks can help them analyze and improve their score. There is a general psychology of making it transparent and error-free as well. But, the Supreme Court made it clear that the negative impact can include;
- Compromising the integrity and prestige of the institution
- It can be a noise in the evaluation process
- Hindrance with the Confidentiality of the sensitive material
- It may lead to the disclosure of the examiner along with the marks
- The students might get bitter and might opt for court cases
But, in those cases where the disclosure of marks would be required the court is entitled to take a decision. In those particular cases, the marks can be furnished as well. S, there is no rigidity followed by the court in this matter.
